Brenham clinches another 18-4A title
BRENHAM ÐÐ The Brenham Cubs clinched their fourth consecutive District 18-4A championship Friday night with a decisive 42-7 victory over the Willis Wildkats at Cub Stadium.
In the final home game of the season, Brenham scored all six of its touchdowns on plays by seniors and was able to play its reserves for almost the entire second half after jumping out to a 42-0 halftime lead.
Senior running back Ryan Roberson, a University of Texas commit, ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries for Brenham (7-2, 5-0 in 18-4A). Senior receiver Bart Frederick ran for a touchdown and caught a 25-yard touchdown pass, and Justin Bennett caught a 10-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 48 yards for another score.
Senior quarterback Kyler Crenshaw threw a pair of touchdown passes and finished the day 7 of 10 for 124 yards with no interceptions.
Since going 2-2 in nondistrict play, the Cubs have won their first five district games, continuing a perfect 18-4A stretch that dates back to 2004.
Willis fell to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in district play.

Rockdale 43, Cameron 21: ROCKDALE - The Rockdale Tigers punched their ticket to the playoffs, finishing District 18-3A play with a 43-21 victory over Cameron on Friday.
Rockdale (4-6, 3-1 in 18-3A) clinched one of the district's three playoff berths. Cameron (5-4, 2-1) needs a win next week at Liberty Hill or a Taylor loss to advance to the playoffs.
Rockdale's Kortlin White scored three touchdowns and rushed for 220 yards on 29 carries to lead both teams.
Quarterback Mark Drake threw for two of the Tigers touchdowns, completing 8 of 13 passes for 121 yards and finding Nic Hammett and Bobby Joe Tindle for scores. Cois Walker scored Rockdale's final touchdown on a 20-yard run.
Steven Townsend threw for all three of Cameron's touchdowns, completing 13 of 27 passes for 164 yards and one interception. James Wells, Brandon Freeman and Thomas Limmer all caught touchdown scores.
The game's only other score was a safety to start the third quarter, as Cameron's Wells was tackled in his own end zone.

Franklin 49, Hempstead 0: HEMPSTEAD - Franklin clinched a District 26-2A playoff berth Friday night and set up a showdown for the district championship next week by shutting out Hempstead 49-0 on Friday night.
Franklin (7-1, 5-0 in 26-2A) faces Lexington next week in a battle of unbeaten teams for the district title. Both teams have clinched a playoff spot.
Franklin's defense forced seven turnovers, including a fumble on the game's opening kickoff, and held Hempstead to 32 yards rushing. The Lions defense was led by Randy Restino with seven tackles and a sack and Ross Bishop with three interceptions.
Dennis Darnell scored three of the Lions' touchdowns, finishing with 140 yards on 28 carries. Teammate Austin Miller led both teams in rushing with 163 yards on 20 carries and a score. Jermain Williams and Bishop also added touchdown runs.
Quarterback Jake Russ completed just 2 of 3 passes for 42 yards, but one was a 17 yard pass to Steven Currie for a touchdown.
Howard Campbell rounded out the scoring with a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Lexington 41, Somerville 6: LEXINGTON - The Lexington Eagles scored 41 unanswered points in the 41-6 victory over Somerville on Friday night in District 26-2A action.
With the victory, Lexington (7-2, 5-0 in 26-2A) remains tied with Franklin in first place atop the district with the two teams to meet next week for the league crown.
Lexington's Jenner Jones threw for two touchdowns and completed all four of his pass attemps for 69 yards. Teammate Colt McCravey threw for two more touchdowns, completing 6 of 10 passes for 102 yards.
B.J. Brister caught two touchdowns, one from each quarterback and had 70 yards receiving. Lexington's Steven Berry and Clint Hutson caught the other two scoring throws.
Lexington's Kaleb Kearney led both teams in rushing with 129 yards on 10 carries, scoring the first touchdown of the game on a 26-yard run in the first quarter.
Somerville broke up the shut out with a 5-yard run by Justin Johnson in the fourth quarter. Johnson finished with 89 yards on 20 carries to lead his team.
While Lexington travels to face Franklin in a showdown for the 22-2A title next week, Somerville finishes district play by hosting Trinity.

Centerville 19, Marlin 18: MARLIN - The Centerville Tigers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 19-18 comeback victory over Marlin on Friday night in District 22-2A action.
The victory ties the two teams for third place in district with one game left to play.
Centerville's Devin Smith found Kraig Bates for a touchdown with 6 minutes, 54 seconds left in the fourth quarter to pull Centerville within five points.
With 18 seconds left in the game, Smith scored on a 12-yard run to give Centerville (6-3, 4-2 in 22-2A) a one-point lead. The deciding factor in the game proved to be the only PAT Centerville made, a kick in the first quarter.
Centerville's Zach Dickson rushed 16 times for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Centerville will take on Riesel at home next week.

Milano 35, Bartlett 14: MILANO - Chad Burgess threw two touchdown passes and had two rushing touchdowns for the Milano Eagles, who improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in District 27-A play. Burgess carried 20 times for 240 yards and was 6-of-8 passing for 59 yards.
Paul Adrian was the Eagles top receiver with five catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Milano will close out district play at Holland on Friday.

Buffalo 27, Leon 13: BUFFALO - The Leon Cougars fell to District 22-2A foe Buffalo 27-13 on Friday.
Leon (2-6, 1-5 in 22-2A) answered an early Buffalo touchdown with its own touchdown a minute later, as Johnny Guevara scored on a 20-yard run.
Both teams traded scores again, and Leon's Garrett McCune rushed for a 2-yard score late in the first half to tie the score at 13.
Buffalo pulled away for the win in the second half.
Leon's Jake Noey rushed for 107 yards on 20 carries to lead his team. Guevara finished with 79 yards on 11 carries.
Leon (2-6, 1-5 in 22-2A) hosts Teague next week.

Hubbard 23, Iola 8: IOLA - Driving in the fourth quarter to tie the game, Iola turned the ball over on downs at Hubbard's 2-yard line, and Hubbard mounted a game-sealing drive to win 23-8 on Friday in District 25-A action.
Iola (0-9, 0-6 in 25-A) allowed two big plays in the first quarter and gave up 494 yards of offense, but the Bulldogs had a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter.
Jordan Ruen scored Iola's touchdown on a 7-yard run in the first quarter. Ruen finished with 112 yards on 24 carries. Slayton Murray led the Bulldogs with 127 yards on 19 carries.
The Bulldogs defense was led by Justin Willis, who recovered three of the Jaguars' five fumbles.

Brenham Christian 48, West Columbia Charter 0: BRENHAM - Quarterback Travis Cole threw for five touchdowns and rushed for another as the Brenham Christian Eagles picked up their first win in the final game of the season with a 48-0 shutout of West Columbia Charter on Friday night.
In a game called by mercy rule at halftime, Brenham Christian's Travis Cole threw two touchdown passes to Mario Jones in the first quarter and three more to three different receivers in the second. Cole found Morio Jones for 21 yards, Lonnie Armstrong for 24 yards and Mario Jones again for 15 yards, all for scores.
Cole finished his night's scoring binge with a 28-yard touchdown run.
Regan Cameron scored the game's other touchdown on a 1-yard run.
Brenham Christian finished the year 1-8 overall and 0-4 in TAPPS 6-man Division II, District 5.

Waco Texas Christian 36, Brazos Christian 24: WACO - Brazos Christian rushed for 295 yards but couldn't overcome Waco Texas Christian, falling 36-24 Friday night.
Brazos Christian's Michael Ford had two touchdowns and rushed for 146 yards on 14 carries. Teammate Chad Milburn rushed 21 times for 107 yards.
Scott Rabroker scored the Eagles other touchdown on a 10-yard run in the second quarter. Brian Brown kicked a field goal in the third quarter to finish Brazos Christian's scoring.
