Bryan's Thursday Football Standouts
Here are the Bryan standouts in the Vikings' 14-7 win over Harker Heights on Thursday:
LINEBACKERS: Elton Holmes had seven unassisted tackles, five assists and a fumble recovery. Curtis Cook had five tackles and four assists, and three of his tackles went for losses.
DEFENSIVE LINE: Defensive tackle Michael Martin had one solo tackle, six assists and two tackles for losses. Fellow tackle Torlan Pittman had a tackle and three assists with two tackles for losses.
SECONDARY: Safety Richard Boone had seven unassisted tackles and four assists. He also caused a fumble and intercepted a pass to end the game. Cornerback Jaron Gentry had five tackles.
OFFENSIVE LINE: Bryan again played a two tight end set successfully, with Brandon Coleman and Trey Frances both earning praise for their play. Guards Jeff Bernal and Gage Crenshaw also had big games.
OFFENSIVE BACKS: Junior running back Monterell Washington carried 30 times for 135 yards on his busiest night of the season.
RECEIVERS: Gary Hammond had six receptions for 58 yards, and Krey Bratsen added three for 28.
UPON FURTHER REVIEW: With the exception of two big plays on Harker Heights' only scoring drive, Bryan was nearly flawless on defense. The win clinched a Division I bi-district playoff spot against Round Rock Stony Point. Stony Point is the current leader in District 14-5A with a record of 7-2 and 5-1 in district play.
NEXT: Bryan (5-4, 3-2 in 13-5A) hosts Killeen Shoemaker (2-7, 2-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Viking Stadium.
