Brazos Valley's Top Football Performers
Here are the Brazos Valley standouts for Week 9 of the high school football season:
Centerville quarterback Devin Smith completed nine of 20 passes for 207 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers' 19-18 upset of Marlin. Smith also scored the game-winning touchdown on a 12-yard run with 18 seconds left. Thomas Wolcott was the main receiver, catching six passes for 106 yards.
In the same game, Normangee quarterback Justin Mullinnix ran for 57 yards and completed 12 of 27 passes for 180 yards. Chandrick Evans was the go-to receiver. Evans caught nine passes for 169 yards and a touchdown.
In A&M Consolidated's 45-24 victory over Belton, Marshall Cashion rushed for 201 yards on 33 carries and scored three touchdowns, moving Cashion over 1,000 yards for the year.
Brazos Christian running backs Chad Milburn (21 carries, 107 yards) and Michael Ford (14 carries, 146 yards, 2 touchdowns) led the rushing attack in a 36-24 loss to Waco Texas Christian Academy.
Running back Xavier Canto ran 26 times for 261 yards with four touchdowns in Caldwell's 44-29 win over Navasota.
Navasota's running back Dexter Pratt ran 22 times for 141 yards and scored twice.
Brenham's Kyler Crenshaw completed seven passes in 10 attempts and had a touchdown throw in Brenham's district championship-clinching 42-7 win over Willis. Ryan Roberson had 11 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Justin Bennett had a touchdown reception and returned a punt 48 yards for a score.
Kaleb Kearney ran 10 times for 129 yards and a touchdown in a 41-6 Lexington win over Somerville. Colt McCravey hit 6 of 10 passes for 102 yards with two touchdowns.
Brenham Christian quarterback Travis Cole hit 11 of 16 passes for 228 yards with five touchdowns to give the Eagles a season-ending 48-0 win over West Columbia Charter. Receiver Mario Jones caught four passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns.
Rockdale running back Kortlin White rushed 29 times for 220 yards and three touchdowns to give the Tigers a 43-21 win over Cameron in the Battle of the Bell.
In Bremond's 48-41 win over Normangee, quarterback LiDarral Bailey completed 11 of 24 passes for 224 yards with four touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. Running back Rickie Williams ran 17 times for 132 yards and a touchdown. He returned a fumbled 27 yards for a score. Jeremy Baker caught four passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns.
Cameron quarterback Steven Townsend completed 13 of 27 passes for 164 yards with three touchdowns.
Bryan safety Richard Boone recorded seven tackles, four assists, caused a fumble and intercepted a pass in a 14-7 win over Harker Heights. Linebacker Elton Holmes had seven tackles, five assists and a fumble recovery. Running back Monterell Washington had 30 carries for 135 yards.
Madisonville running back Chris Whaley had 13 carries for 222 yards and four touchdowns in the Mustangs' 41-22 win over Groesbeck.
Milano quarterback Chad Burgess ran 20 times for 240 yards and scored two touchdowns to guide the Eagles past Bartlett 35-14. Burgess also passed for 59 yards and two scores.
Leon running back Jake Noey had 20 caries for 107 yards in the Cougars' 27-13 loss to Buffalo.
Franklin running backs Dennis Darnell (28 carries, 140 yards, 3 TDs) and Austin Miller (20 carries, 163 yards, 1 TD) helped Franklin run past Hempstead, 49-0.
The following players received honorable mention: Somerville RB Justin Johnson (18 carries, 92 yards, 1 TD), A&M Consolidated RB Jarvon Searcy (7 carries, 55 yards; 2 receptions, 44 yards); A&M Consolidated DB Kip Daily (32-yard interception return); Lexington WR B.J. Brister (2 receptions, 70 yards, 2 TDs).
